Hochparterre

Handbook from the Working Group on Soco-ecological Building Transformation High-quality housing densification means overcoming major social and environmental challenges. How can this be achieved? We are compiling a handbook on this topic, which will be published by Edition Hochparterre in early summer 2026. It brings together specific areas of action: Why does staged development help with socio-ecological densification? How can an inhabited construction site be organised? How can tenants be supported throughout the process? What questions arise when it comes to the fair distribution of living space? How are rents calculated and how can these models be further developed? In addition, there are essays focusing on urban planning, the role of land prices, historical classifications of political initiatives, and discussions about property. This makes the handbook interdisciplinary and accessible to those interested in architecture, urban planning, socioculture, cooperatives, real estate, politics, city administrations, and property owners. This book is the result of a working group of around 50 experts who have been meeting regularly since 2023 to identify and refine areas for action based on concrete examples from practice. To ensure that these concerns are heard, we are also relying on broad funding, which can be supported by this crowdfunding campaign, among other things. Contributors: Antonia Steger (Urban Equipe), Luisa Gehriger (Postdoc ETH Wohnforum), Rebecca Geyer (büro vor ort), Andreas Haug (baubüro in situ), Salome Rohner (ETH Wohnforum + Bureau Giacometti), Sabina Ruff (Laboratorium für Zukunftsgestaltung), Yarin Shmerling (Bureau Giacometti + büro vor ort), Lian Stähelin (ZAS* + squadra), Aline Suter (Caritas Zurich), Sabeth Tödtli (Urban Equipe), Sabine Wolf (Thiesen & Wolf) Back

Tagung Stadt Bern

Bureau Giacometti has been invited to a conference organised by the City of Bern on the topic of ‘Socially Responsible Renovation’ in September 2024. Bern’s housing strategy calls on the city administration to place greater emphasis on social aspects in renovation and replacement construction projects. With a brief practical input on the topic of ‘Interface / Tenancy’, Bureau Giacometti, together with the owner Emil Merz AG, has contributed to the conference programme and organised an excursion to visit the project. This contribution enabled the concepts and ideas of Bureau Giacometti to be presented to a wide audience and discussed in an interactive guided tour on site. The exchange between politics, practice and research opened up new perspectives and enables critical reflection on socially acceptable renovation approaches and their transferability to future urban development projects and strategies. Form Follows Finance

Presentation “Form Follows Finance Nr. 3” at Schauraum B Presentation on the Bureau Giacometti project in August 2022 as part of the ‘FormFollowsFinance’ lecture series in Showroom B at Blaser Architekten in Basel.  In this presentation, Bureau Giacometti outlined the origins and development of its project at Giacomettistrasse 2 and 4 in Bern. The presentation provides insight into the work involved in social support, architecture and housing policy – from the initial discussions with tenants to the current planning and implementation phases of the renovation.   The focus was on dialogue formats with residents, the evaluation of meetings for a dossier for planners, and the development of solutions for relocations and temporary rentals during the construction period. Another focus was the income-based compensation model, which enables fair rents after renovation and is based on trust, individual adaptation and social responsibility.   The presentation showed how architectural planning and social compatibility can be combined with the aim of empowering residents, preventing displacement and securing communal living in the long term.     The lecture was followed by a discussion with the lead architects of the Giacomettistrasse renovation project. The full lecture can be viewed here.  Zurück All Posts Unkategorisiert Architektur und Aktivismus January 20, 2026/No Comments Bureau Giacometti at “Architektur & Aktivismus” 2022 Contribution to the poster exhibition of the Bern University of Applied Sciences at… Read More Form Follows Finance January 20, 2026/No Comments Vortrag “Form Follows Finance Nr. 3” at Schauraum B Presentation on the Bureau Giacometti project in August 2022 as part… Read More
