Working group on socio-ecological building transformation
Since 2023, the Working Group on Socio-Ecological Building Transformation has been regularly bringing together expertise of over 50 theorists and practitioners to discuss and negotiate specific challenges in the housing crisis facing Swiss cities. The aim is to generate insights for a socio-ecological transformation of Switzerland’s housing stock and the results will be published in a book in 2026 with edition hochparterre.
Previous working groups have focused on the following topics:
- Income-based rent model
- Residental renovation with residents in situ
- Occupancy regulations Vol. 1
- Tenants’ protest against mass evictions: the example of Heuried
- Cost-based rent vs. market rent
Tenants’ offices - Occupancy regulations Vol. 2 and architectural tricks
- (in planning) Building moratorium
We are organising the working group together with the Urban Equipe association from Zurich.
It is sponsored by the PONTE Foundation and the Fondation Sotto Voce. The book will be published in collaboration with the Hochparterre publishing house.
