Participation month for communal areas on Giacomettistrasse
In March 2023, a participation month took take place at Giacomettistrasse 2 and 4 – a joint process to shape the future use of the communal areas and actively involve residents in the planning.
Over a period of four weeks, tenants could participate in a variety of ways: at a house aperitif to kick things off, via a guidance system in the stairwell, at weekly lunch meetings, and in two surveys that provided space for anonymous feedback. The month concluded with a neighbourhood event that also involved the Freudenberg neighbourhood.
The aim of the participation month was to encourage residents to share their ideas and needs and to promote a sense of co-determination and responsibility for the communal areas.
Numerous suggestions were collected for the roof terrace, garden, forecourt and neighbourhood room – from more green spaces, seating and shaded areas to meeting places and shared use areas. The results have been passed on to the owner and the architectural firm in the form of a documentation brochure and will be incorporated into the further planning of the renovation, forming the basis for a lively, communally designed neighbourhood.
The participation month has been organised in collaboration with Team Stadtteil 4 of the Bern Community Work Association.
